The truck is a 1942 Chevy Army 1 1/2 ton 4x4, model G506 cargoe. I have had the truck 25 years and first swapped in a 300hp 350 Chevy and Allison AT545 4 speed auto in place of the original 89hp overhead valve straight 6 and 4 speed. Two years ago it was back down to the frame for another rebuild. "Big Rips" new heartbeat is a 540 C.I.Merlin block Rat motor with an 871 BDS blower, twin Holley 950's, Eagle crank and rods, rollers, all the good stuff to the tune of about 960 HP. I designed and had built the 20 inch double beadlock rims which have "Stars and Stripes Forever" lazer cut in the rock rings. Tires are 53 inch tall Michelins as used on todays 5 and 10 ton Army trucks. The same running gear and sheet metal was used on the Chevy as the GMC Jimmy of WW2 fame. The truck is simply the "duece and a half" 6x6 without the third axle. The 2 1/2 ton rated original axles were plenty beefy, but I swapped in later model GMC 2 1/2 ton axles for two reasons. The originals used leather seals which leaked even when replaced and Detroit lockers are made for the newer axles. A plus was the newer style axles have much heavier axle shafts and the axle housings look almost identical, so the original look is there. The truck is getting 4 wheel power disc brakes and power steering. The radiator is custom made with built in shroud and high CFM fan, all polished aluminum. Heavy duty custom made drive shafts, front and rear hydraulic winches, custom tool box,etc. Oh yeah, I have had a few Vettes along the way too!
